Solar Water Heating Installers
When shopping around for a solar water heating installer, you should always look for a certified professional.
The British Research Establishment (BRE) has independent assessment and certification for numerous green products and services. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is available to installers of solar water heating and installers who hold one of these certificates is recommended by the Energy Saving Trust.
When getting a solar quote from an installer you should be given details of the specification of the proposed system and how much it's going to cost. The installer should also explain how they have determined what size and which system will suit you best and also supply you with operating instructions. The installer will also have an idea of how much hot water will be produced by the system.
Which? Investigation
People looking for solar panel installers have been urged to do so with caution following an investigation by Which? this year which found 10 out of 14 solar water heating installers attempted to mislead the undercover client. According to the UK watchdog, the Office of Fair Trading receives around 1000 complaints about the solar water heating sector in 2009 despite less than 100,000 installations taking place in the country.
We strongly advise that you get quotes from a number of different installers, nationwide and local, to get a realistically-priced and suitable system for you.
